作
作 (zuò) means “to do; to work; (verb prefix)”. It’s an HSK 1 character in the “Verbs” group. In the app it comes with a memory story so the sound, tone and meaning stick in one exposure.
How to remember 作
Every Hanzi Master story is built from the sound. For zuò, the opening sound casts who is in the scene, the ending picks where it happens, and the 4th tone (falling) places it in one of five rooms. 亻 (person) and 乍 (suddenly) walk on as the props, and the action lands on the meaning: to do; to work; (verb prefix).
The finished scene for 作 is one vivid sentence. Picture it once and zuò stays with you.
